The Premium Institute of Bartending – WHO WE ARE

The Bartending School was founded by David and Rikki Phillips.  Our background includes 20 years in the Bartending and Education Industry.  We combined our knowledge of Bartending with our ability to educate people,  and opened our Dallas Bartending School.  We have students working all over the Dallas Metroplex.  This includes, Dallas, Fort Worth, Addison, Lewisville, Flower Mound, Irving, Arlington, Garland, Carrollton, Richardson, Keller, Denton, and more.  Check out our Job Placement page for more information.

We asked students what they would like to see in a Bartender School.

With that in mind, we built our school to simulate a real bar.  During class, we set the mood to make you feel you are walking into a club on a Saturday Night. This includes, great music, disco balls, strobe lights, and more.  Since you will be working in chaos, you will need to learn in that environment too. We added the Externship Program to help get students in front of a real bar BEFORE they graduate.  We created a professional development class to help students learn how to interview for Bartending Jobs and ensure they have a resume for Bartending positions.  We’vie equipped the school with computers to help them prepare their resumes as well as research companies on the Internet.

We asked the Bar/Restaurant Owners what skills they wanted Bartender School Graduates to have.  This is what they said.

1. Speed and Efficiency behind the bar
2. Accuracy in Liquor Pouring
3. Presentation of the drinks

Our entire Bartending School Program is built around these three components.  You will learn to use two hands while making drinks, learn to minimize the number of steps to complete multiple drink orders, learn to accurately pour from ¼ ounce to 3 oz’s of liquor, and learn the proper fill levels of the different glassware as well as all the Garnishes that go with the cocktails.

On-line Bartending Schools

Please take a moment and read this if you have considered taking an On-line Bartending Course versus Hands-on Bartending Training.

There are a number of companies that offer Bartending Training on-line.  These companies claim to be able to teach the skill of bartending by interactive classes on the computer.  I guess, if you planned to “virtually” bartend at an on-line bar, this may work.  But in the “real” world you need “hands-on” practice behind a “real” bar.  This is not a skill that can be learned by reading a manual.   Most charge between $50 and $100 for the course.  Buyer beware!!!!  You will get what you pay for.

Imagine a nurse trying to draw your blood after taking an on-line nursing program.  You probably would not have much faith in the nurse’s abilities, right?  Well bar managers and owners, feel the same way.  And the point of taking any bartending training program, is to get a job as a bartender!
